Q: What are the limitations during the trial period?
A: During the trial period, the B-Folders application is fully
functional. After the trial period expires and if no license key is
provided, editing and creating new items will be disabled. However, you
will still be able to read and search your data.
Q: How many licenses do I need?
A: You need only one license for all your personal
computers. While there is no technical limitation, we consider a fair
personal use to be for up to three personal computers.
Q: I cannot recall my password. How can I recover or reset it?
A: It is not possible to recover or reset passwords. The B-Folders
application uses an
extremely strong, government-grade encryption cipher
AES-256 and since we use an open-source encryption library, it is
certain that there is no backdoor implemented. You have two options:
create a completely new database by deleting the current one; or
restore an
old backup that was created with an old password that you can recall.
Q: Why do I see a pane saying "Unlock Database"?
A: This tells you that your database has been locked according
to the auto-timeout setting you have chosen.
Q: Are backups encrypted?
A: Yes, all backups are encrypted with the password in use at the
time
of creation. Make sure you retain all old passwords in case you need to
restore old backups.
Q: Why do I have to enter my password so often?
A: You can set the auto-timeout for inactivity anywhere from 30
seconds to 8 hours (or even “Never”) if you have long
pauses while using B-Folders.
Q: What are the numbers in the name of the backup file?
A: The date and time of creation is encoded in the name of the
backup file
in the following format - year_month_hour_minute.
Q: Where is my database located?
A: On Windows 7 and Vista, it is located in <user
home>\AppData\Roaming\B-Folders4\workspace\database\
On Windows XP, it is located in <user home>\Application
Data\B-Folders4\workspace\database\
On Mac OS X and Linux, it is located in <user
home>/.B-Folders4/workspace/database/
Q: Why am I unable to copy/paste in B-Folders?
A: Some security/antivirus software like Webroot Secure Anywhere
are
blocking access to the system clipboard as a measure of identity and
privacy protection. You will need to check the settings of your
security software.
Q: On Windows XP, when installing the Internet Explorer extension
I get "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this
application.". What could be wrong?
A: During the installation process, on the Run as
dialog, uncheck the Protect my computer and data from unauthorized
program activity checkbox. If the current user account is not an
administrator, provide administrator account credentials on the same
dialog.
Q: Is it possible to have multiple databases and switch between
them?
A: Yes. Even though that feature is not yet official, you can
specify the location of the workspace directory with the command line.
The workspace directory contains the database and settings. In this
way, you
can create more than one shortcut (link) to launch B-Folders and each
one can specify a different workspace. Use the -data
"directory_path"
command-line option to specify the workspace location. For example, in
the
shortcut's (link's) properties, the Target file could be set as "C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\B-Folders
4\b-folders.exe"
-data "c:\extradata\workspace4".
Web browser extensions
Q: I get a message that the B-Folders extension isn't compatible
with Internet Explorer. What could be wrong?
A: It is caused by the Enhanced Protected Mode which is enabled by
default on clean Windows 8.1 installations. Installing the latest
updates, disables that mode and makes the B-Folders extension
compatible.
Q: I installed the B-Folders extension for Internet Explorer, but
it won't work. What could be wrong?
A: I will need to enable to extension and restart Internet
Explorer.
